Kubota Tractor Corporation recently announced a Kubota initiative to approve the use of "B20" biodiesel fuels in selected Kubota diesel-powered products in the United States equipment market. Biodiesel fuels, most often offered in a blended-petroleum format, are derived from vegetable oils such as soybean and are offered in the United States as an alternative source for energy. The approved blends of biodiesel fuel for use in Kubota diesel-powered products range up to a "B20" blend that consists of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel.

The Associated Press Financial Wire recently reported that Caterpillar Inc. officials don't expect a double-dip recession because the world's central banks haven't made major errors and the economy has been improving throughout 2010, especially in the developing world. New CEO Doug Oberhelman, who has been with Caterpillar since 1975, stated that Caterpillar is of the opinion that there will be "fantastic growth in our industry in the future."

Hertz Global Holdings Inc. said that the Securities and Exchange Commission approved its registration statement for its proposed acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. on August 17, 2010. Hertz said the registration statement includes a proxy statement/prospectus relating to the Dollar Thrifty stockholder vote required to approve the merger and covering shares of Hertz's common stock to be issued to Dollar Thrifty stockholders under the terms of the merger agreement. In addition, Dollar Thrifty has started mailing the proxy statement/prospectus to its stockholders, seeking approval of the deal. The car rental company plans a shareholder vote on the deal at a special meeting on September 16.
 
A September 13 article on Palo Alto Online stated that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is currently visiting Shanghai for the 2010 World Expo, pitched Silicon Valley -- and Mountain View's Moffett Field -- as the site of the 2020 World Expo. The Bay Area Council, which lobbied Schwarzenegger to back the Silicon Valley location, has been talking about Moffett Field as a potential site for the world's fair, said Bill Berry, president of University Associates, which is leading the effort to build a major UC campus at Moffett Field. As many as 70 million visitors would boost business in the area for six months, plus hundreds of acres of new infrastructure would be built that could be re-used by businesses and universities for years to come, at no cost to taxpayers.

The Air Resources Board recently announced the selection of four projects to demonstrate advanced clean engine technologies that reduce smog-forming and diesel soot emissions. ARB selected the Port of Long Beach, the Port of Los Angeles, the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District and the South Coast Air Quality Management District as agency partners for the awards.

Caterpillar Inc. announced on August 17 that the company’s C9.3 ACERT engine has received the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Tier 4 emissions certification and European Union (EU) emissions type approval. The C9.3 ACERT is the first Caterpillar non-road engine to receive emissions certification in the 130-560 kW power category.
