Competing against the other 10 category award winners, Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power’s newest engine series also received the magazine’s Silver award.
"We invested significant time and effort to understand our customers’ biggest challenges and engineered single-cylinder engines that addressed them," said Dan Roche, marketing manager with Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power. "This recognition is yet another sign that these engines and the TransportGuard system have met those needs."
The four Vanguard single-cylinder engines boast gross horsepower ratings ranging from 5.5 gross hp to 10.0 gross hp. The engines include many new features specifically designed to address the top worksite challenges cited by end-user customers and OEMs: heavy dust, lack of regular maintenance, filtration issues and oil dilution during transportation.
Most notably, the engines include an integrated switch, called the TransportGuard™ system, which Vanguard engineers designed to simultaneously shut off the ignition and the fuel. This patent-pending innovation ensures that fuel stays where it belongs and helps eliminate fouled plugs, hydraulic lock, cylinder wash down and crankcase oil dilution caused by transportation.
The Innovative Product Award was established in 2003. This year the awards honored the most innovative products introduced in the rental equipment industry between Aug. 1, 2009, and July 31, 2010.
This is the fourth notable award for the engine series — and TransportGuard system — since its debut in January 2010. The awards include the Energy Zone Award sponsored by Speedy Hire at the 2010 Executive Hire Show, the 2010 World of Concrete Most Innovative Product, Power Equipment Trade’s Dealer Choice Award, and the 2010 Rental Equipment Register’s Innovative Product award.
