A recent company press release announced that Vermeer has added more power to its RTX line of rubber-track trenchers with the addition of the RTX450. With a 49-horsepower (36.5 kW) Tier 4 Final engine, this trencher can handle open cut installations in tough ground conditions and the small spaces. The RTX450 is best suited for urban utility work such as electric, fiber, natural gas or water installations. "Contractors need equipment that can install utility services more productively in confined areas and with minimal turf disturbance," said Jon Kuyers, Vermeer underground global product manager. "The light footprint and maneuverability of the RTX450 allows it to access and install utilities where other machines are too large."

The RTX450 is the smallest ride-on utility tractor in the market with quad tracks. The track system improves balance, stability and tractive effort while minimizing surface disruption, which lowers restoration costs. An electronically controlled hydraulic pump delivers more power and precise control to the ground drive and attachment circuit — improving the machine’s overall operating performance.

The RTX450 also features the Vermeer exclusive TrenchSense™ electronic control system that actively monitors engine rpm and chain operation. The system can react faster than the operator to prevent engine stall when difficult digging conditions are encountered, helping to increase machine productivity.

A common control platform with other Vermeer ride-on trenchers allows for more efficient operator training.

The RTX450 is also available with a 49-horsepower (31.3 kW) Tier 4 Interim engine. For more information on Vermeer products and services, visit the company’s website at www.vermeer.com or email Vermeer at salesinfo@vermeer.com.
