Doosan Portable Power has introduced the Tundra Package™, a collection of special features designed specifically for mobile generators operating in regions of extreme cold. The various components of the Tundra Package include enhancements proven to improve engine starting and reliability, and ensure generators will run in temperatures as low as -40ºC/ºF.

Highlights of the Tundra Package include an engine coolant heater that keeps the engine and cooling system warm -- a feature that results in quicker starting time and less battery grind. A complimentary oil pan heater keeps the engine oil less viscous, resulting in better and faster circulation throughout the engine, reducing wear on vital components.

To further assist with engine startup, high capacity cranking batteries are equipped with a heating element to prevent the electrolyte from freezing. And to ensure that the battery does not lose charge in subzero conditions, a battery charger is also included to ensure that sufficient cranking amps are available to start the generator on every occasion.

In addition to features that help the generator start up more reliably in extreme cold weather, the Tundra Package also includes a feature that ensures the generator will operate reliably as well.  Doosan has developed a unique heated breather hose designed to prevent crankcase vapors from freezing in cold temperatures and blocking the breather, which can lead to costly downtime and expensive engine damage. The heated breather hose is powered directly from the generator and requires no external power. Any time the engine is running, the heated breather hose maintains sufficient heat to prevent the formation of ice in the crankcase ventilation system and is self-regulated to match proper temperature to the ambient conditions.

"The Tundra Package is designed to provide peace of mind for mobile generator operators located in remote, frigid conditions with additional assurance their generator won’t fail them," says Todd Howe, manager, global generator products. "The fear that a generator won’t start -- or operate properly for that matter -- and provide the power that is essential to their operation can all but be alleviated with the addition of the Tundra Package. We see this as being especially valuable in many remote oil drilling areas of the Northern U.S. and Canada."

The Tundra Package is available as a factory option on all new generators manufactured in North America (U.S. and Canada), or as an aftermarket purchase for existing generator models. In addition, Doosan Portable Power develops custom additions to the Tundra Package to meet customer requirements for specific applications.
